2021 Bike4Water

September 2021

Bike Collage 2.jpg

When Grant and I started biking in the 1960s, we didn’t know that we would end up biking across the country three times, as well as the East Coast and the West Coast, to make a complete circle around the USA. When we learned that millions of people lacked clean water, sanitation, and training in hygiene, we decided to raise awareness and money for our thirsty world on our bike adventures. And look what happened!

We Biked: 16,724 miles
You Gave: $116,048
All Funds Were Matched, Totaling $232, 096

5,802 Africans Received Clean Water

Bike Ride: September 4th-September 18th

We have 4 states to complete to finish our dream of completing all 50 states. Grant, the love of my life for 55 years, slipped into Heaven last November, so lifelong friends have come alongside me to bike Nebraska and South Dakota. We appreciate your prayers for safety.

You can donate by clicking the blue DONATE button at the top of this page, or mail a check to BTG4WATER, 45 Parkside Ct., Chico, CA 95928. Each cyclist pays their own expenses.

The Wheels Are Spinning In Tennessee!

September 2019

You would think that 3 times across the USA, plus the East and West Coasts on our bicycles would be enough, but it is not.  We have seven more states to go before we can say that we have bicycled all fifty states, so on September 26th Grant and I will be biking Tennessee.  Why do we do it? We love the adventure, meeting so many good people, and living simply, but most of all, these journeys have given us the opportunity to raise awareness and money for our thirsty world.  It is hard to believe that 844 million people do not have access to clean water.

We have come to the conclusion that it is best for us to do what we love to help make our world a better place.  We invite you to be a part of our journey by praying for our safety, endurance, and health.

Happy Birthday Ride... Nevada & Utah

September & October 2018

Adventures3.jpg

Every two years we get the big desire to get on the road for a long bicycle ride to raise awareness and money for clean water.  We have gone Coast to Coast 3 times, down the East and West Coast,  but we still have 9 states that we haven't biked.  So to celebrate our 75th birthdays we are going to bike across Nevada and Utah, which we know is going to be a challenge......steep terrain and few services along the way.  We will be on U.S. Highway 50, which is described as "The Loneliest Road in America".  You are more then welcome to drop by and cheer us on.  Seriously, we appreciate your prayers for our safety, endurance, and money to be raised for our thirsty world.  We plan to leave September 28th and return at the end of October. The uniqueness of this trip is that Grant is going to be the sag wagon and do some biking and Sky will be the solo bicyclist. We plan to post our Ride on the Bridging the Gap by Giving Facebook page.  You can donate by clicking here or by mailing a check to: Bridging the Gap by Giving, 1380 East Ave, Ste. 124 #103 Chico, CA 95926.

Update:

I want to thank each one of you that encouraged us through prayer, positive words, and donations.  We had no flat tires, injuries, sickness, rain, and every driver used caution when passing us.  On top of all that goodness, we went over our goal of raising $12,000 by $1,000 plus all funds raised will be matched.  We are so excited this this ride will provide two safe water projects with Lifewater International!

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro

Date?

6.jpg

I can hardly believe that I am saying this, but I am a little sad that I am not preparing to climb a big mountain this year. I have many good memories tucked away in my memory bank from climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro last year. From the first day of working out to prepare for the adventure, my heart was filled with excitement. Many of you aren’t aware, but the seed to climb Kili was planted in my my mind about 15 years previously when Grant and I took our first trip to Africa. In our travels, we passed Kili and I nudged Grant and said that one day I was going to climb Kili. Years later I received a letter from Lifewater International inviting me to Climb For Water by ascending 19,340’. I knew that was my invitation from God to go for it. The Lifewater team of 16 that I climbed with ended up raising over $110,000 for safe water projects in Ethiopia.

God is so good to allow each one of us to do good works, which He has prepared for us. Literally He has created each one of us uniquely to do good. I am thankful for the spirit of adventure and the healthy body He has given me to help others. At this time, I am waiting patiently for the next adventure that God will prepare for me…..His timing is always good.

Life is a journey, not a destination.

Vancouver to Fort Bragg

September 2015

Grant and Shirley Adams leave on September 8, 2015 to bike from Vancouver, Canada to Fort Bragg, CA to complete their bicycle ride around the USA.

When we started biking in the sixties, we didn’t know that we would end up biking across the USA three times, as well as the East Coast, and the soon to be finished West Coast, to make a complete circle around the USA. When we learned that millions of people lacked clean water, sanitation, and training in hygiene, we decided to raise awareness and money for our thirsty world on our bike adventures. We love our summer adventures, but when we can combine it with doing good for others, we truly become alive. Blending life is so exciting.

It is truly God’s purpose for us to do the good works that God has prepared for us to do, and in doing these good works, each of us finds our deepest contentment.
